Kahurangi Estate Four Barrels Premium Reserve Pinot Noir 2021
Estate & Region
Kahurangi Estate is a proud family-owned and operated winery located in the stunning Nelson wine region.
Each bottle we craft is a genuine expression of the land, capturing the unique qualities of this vibrant area. Our passionate team, dedicated to viticulture and winemaking, works diligently to ensure that every wine we produce meets the highest standards of quality.
We gather grapes from various sites across the Nelson region, including the Waimea Plains with its rich alluvial soils and the Moutere Hills known for their intense clay loams. Nelson’s cool maritime climate enables us to create distinctive wines, while Motueka soils, coastal breezes, and ample sunshine hours provide an ideal setting for developing expressive, aromatic varietals.
Wine Making
Starting with a warm spring, it continued on through a long, hot, and very dry summer and autumn, resulting in superb, clean, ripe fruit packed with intense flavors perfect for making sensational wine. One of Nelson’s finest vintages, our Four Barrels Pinot Noir came from three of our growers' vineyards on the Moutere hills and Waimea Plains.
Fermented in predominantly French oak barriques with a small portion in American oak barriques for 12 months. After extended barrel aging, we carefully bottle and cellar for a further two years before release.
Tasting Notes
Four Barrels Pinot Noir displays generous plum, cherry, and ripe berry fruit aromas with a hint of spice. The palate is rich and shows layers of silky-smooth dark berry flavors underpinned by subtle notes of dry ‘Provençal’ herbs. A beautifully balanced, elegant, lush wine with a lingering finish.
Cellaring Recommendation
Best enjoyed now through to 2030.

Reviews & Awards
5 Stars 96 Points - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
Richly fruited and seductively complex, the bouquet showcases dark fruit intensity, smoked game, dried mushroom, potpourri, and fine oak aromas. The palate displays excellent concentration, plush mouthfeel, and finely integrated tannins, making it wonderfully structured and harmonious, with a persistent, satisfying finish. At its best: now to 2031.
