We source grapes from several sites around the Nelson region encompassing the Waimea Plains with its rich alluvial soils to the Moutere Hills and their intense clay loams. Nelson’s cool maritime climate allows us to produce distinctive wines from the various sub-regions.

The home-block vineyard, located near the iconic Upper Moutere Village was first planted in 1973 and contains a number of varieties including Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Montepulciano and the oldest commercial Riesling vines in the South Island. Kahurangi Estate was established in 1998 and continues to be a leading brand in the quality focused Nelson wine scene.

Tasting Notes

A generous and fruit-driven style, offering aromas of ripe peach, melon and citrus blossom with soft notes of vanilla and spice. The palate is smooth and rounded, balancing juicy stonefruit flavours with hints of oak toast and creamy lees influence. Supple and approachable, it finishes with refreshing brightness.
